The Selah Police Department is now accepting employment applications for a Lateral Police Officer position.
Summary of Position
Under the general supervision of a Sergeant, Police Officers are sworn, general authority law enforcement officers who perform a wide variety of public safety and community care-taking duties including; preserving the peace, protecting life and property, enforcing laws and ordinances, deterring and preventing crime, investigating criminal activity and providing public safety education.
Special Requirements
Must be a citizen of the United States.
Must be able to read and write the English language.
Must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age prior to hire date.
Must possess a valid vehicle operator’s license.
Must pass the BLEA physical ability test (PAT), pre-selection interview, polygraph, psychological and medical examinations drug screening, and a comprehensive background investigation regarding applicant’s aptitude, character, judgment, credit, driving record and criminal history.
Applicants must possess normal color vision, and visual acuity of not less than 20/100 in each eye, corrected to 20/20 in the better eye and 20/30 in the lesser eye.

Education, Experience, and Training Guidelines: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Required Experience
Washington State Certified Police Officer or successful completion of an equivalent Police Academy prior to hire.
Must have completed his/her probationary period inclusive of one year of regular full-time service with original agency.
Must not have been out of law enforcement for more twenty-four (24) months prior to application date.
Peace Officer Certificate must be in full force without any additional training needed, apart from the Washington State Equivalency Academy.
Must have a minimum of twenty-four (24) months working as a full-time commissioned police officer.
